Athlete's Spotlight — Scott Pifer

Congratulations to Scott Pifer, Cynergy CrossFit’s Athlete Spotlight for December!Scott is a quiet yet fierce competitive athlete. Extremely supportive of his fellow athletes and a big contributor as an assistant coach in our Youth CrossFit classes. Scott exemplifies all the best qualities of a spotlight athlete and it is an honor to celebrate him today! What do you do for work?I am a high school math teacher at Quincy High School. I also coach high school football at Abington High School. What would you like us to know about you and your family? You all know my wife, coach Charlene … we have 3 boys who also participate in the youth classes (Matthew 12, Daniel 11, and Thomas 8). We are a very active family, aside from all of us enjoying CrossFit … we love the outdoors, mostly hiking. We live in Abington with our two dogs: Grace and AbnerWhat is one thing that we may not know about you?I am very “particular” about a lot of little things, like how the dishwasher is loaded, how our clothes are folded, the pen I use, among many other little things. How long have you been CrossFitting? For a long time, maybe 13 years? I started by researching a lot of training templates for high school athletes and myself, when I found a video “fight gone bad” thinking it was an actual fight that broke out in a weight room. After a few minutes of watching, waiting for a fight to break out, I finally realized it was a group workout and what it actually was and that is when the obsession with CrossFit began. What time do you typically train?5amWhat is your favorite lift and why?Clean and jerk … I love the mix of the explosion and power as well as the skill required to master it, something I am still working on.What is your favorite WOD and why?Grace - 30 clean and jerks … I like to do it heavier and also with odd objects (heavy sandbags, atlas stones, logs, etc..). I also like to incorporate it with some cardio. What are your current CF goals?Continue to improve my skills and get stronger. Right now, I would love to improve my snatch technique and consistency, I still have not hit a 225# snatch. This has been a goal of mine for a long, long time. What are your current life goals?Continually improving as a husband, father, teacher, and coach. Specific goal, take the family on a vacation to the Colorado Rockies in the next 3 years. What is your most memorable time as a CrossFitter?Every year competing in the Open … I love the competitive aspect of CrossFit and to see the gym full with people competing and cheering each other on, is something that I really enjoy about the sport. How has CF impacted your life outside of the box?It has impacted my whole family, really … we all love to compete and get stronger. We have molded into a CrossFit family, even my in-laws, haha! How would you best describe Cynergy to others?A place for the whole family, classes for literally all ages and skill levels. I can’t think of a place more welcoming for an individual who wants to start a journey of fitness and wellness.Scott's WOD10 Clean & Jerks (135/95)2 Bar Muscle Ups200M Run8 Clean & Jerks (165/105)4 Bar Muscle Ups200M Run6 Clean & Jerks (195/115)6 Bar Muscle Ups200M Run4 Clean & Jerks (225/135)8 Bar Muscle Ups200M Run2 Clean & Jerks (255/155)10 Bar Muscle Ups200M Run
